Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif's wedding was one of the most awaited weddings of 2021. While they made no official announcement about them getting married, the rumours of their marriage started spreading like a wildfire. And proving the rumours right, Vicky and Katrina tied the knot on 9th December 2021. Let us take a look at how these two went from becoming colleagues, to friends and then to finally getting married to each other.
Vicky Kaushal is an Indian film actor. He has won a National Film Award and a Filmfare Award, and he was ranked no. 72 on Forbes India Magazine's Celebrity 100 list in 2019. In order to pursue a career in cinema, he worked as an assistant to Anurag Kashyap on the crime movie Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and then played minor roles in two of Kashyap's productions. His first starring performance was in the independent movie Masaan (2015), for which he won the IIFA and Screen Awards for Best Male Debut. He then played an unhinged cop in Kashyap's psychological thriller Raman Raghav 2.0. (2016). Vicky Kaushal rose to stardom in 2018 with supporting parts in two of the year's highest-grossing Hindi films, Raazi and Sanju. He got the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the latter. In 2018, he also appeared in Netflix features Love per Square Foot and Lust Stories. The following year, he won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance as a military officer in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful action film Uri: The Surgical Strike.
Katrina Kaif, born Katrina Turquotte, is a British-Indian actress best known for her work in Hindi cinema. Kaif was born in Hong Kong and lived in numerous places before relocating to London. Her father, Mohammed Kaif, is a British businessman of Kashmiri heritage, and her mother is an English lawyer and charity worker. She has seven siblings: three older sisters, Stephanie, Christine, and Natasha; three younger sisters, Melissa, Sonia, and Isabel; and one older brother, Michael. Kaif won a beauty pageant in Hawaii when she was fourteen, and her first modeling job was in a jewelry ad. She went on to work professionally as a model in London, for freelancing agencies and at London Fashion Week. She landed her first modeling job as a youngster and went on to seek a career as a fashion model. During a London fashion show, Indian filmmaker Kaizad Gustad opted to cast her in Boom (2003), a critical and financial flop. Kaif earned modeling gigs and had a successful modeling career while in India, but producers were hesitant to cast her owing to her weak command of Hindi. Following her appearance in the Telugu film Malliswari (2004), Kaif achieved commercial success in Bollywood with the romantic comedy Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005) and Namastey London (2006). She went on to have a string of box-office successes, although she was chastised for her performance, repetitious parts, and preference for male-dominated films.
It is rightly said that a lot can happen over coffee, and so it happened for these two. While Koffee With Karan is considered to be a controversial show because of the nonchalant answers that the celebs give sitting on the couch, who even in their dreams would have thought that Katrina and Vicky would find the loves of their life indirectly through this show. During an episode of Karan Johar's chat show Koffee With Karan 6 in 2018, Katrina Kaif stated that she would "look good on screen with Vicky Kaushal". A few episodes later, when Karan Johar informed Vicky Kaushal about Katrina's comments during the programme, he pretended to faint. Reacting to how far the couple has come since the Koffee With Karan episode aired three years ago, one fan tweeted, "When I think about that Koffee with Karan interview of Katrina where she mentioned wanting to work with Vicky Kaushal, because they might look good together'.. I feel she legit manifested him into her life". Katrina and Vicky have still not worked together in a film, as the actress had expressed during the chat show.
Even though they kept their relationship very private from the beginning, the paparazzis found some way or the other to picture them together or outside each others' residence. The rumors of these two dating each other began when Katrina posted a butterfly picture of herself on her Instagram story where it looked like she was resting on someone's chest. While some people said that it was a pillow, there were also people who claimed that it was Vicky Kaushal who's chest she was resting on, because Vicky was seen wearing the exact same shirt a few days back. In case you are wondering which picture we are talking about, here it is.
At an awards ceremony, Vicky Kaushal shared the stage with Katrina Kaif and went on to jokingly propose to her! In a viral video from the event, Vicky was seen asking Katrina Kaif, "Why don't you find a nice Vicky Kaushal and get married to him? The wedding season is going on, so I thought you might want to do the same. So, I thought I should ask you." Reacting, Katrina questioned, "What?" and instantly Vicky broke into a song, "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi". Interestingly, the clip also captured Salman Khan's reaction, who is sitting in the audience. He first smiled and then pretended to doze off on his sister Arpita Khan's shoulder.
The two came together for the first time on an episode of Film Companion's Tape Cast. It is thought to be their first face-to-face meeting. During the chat show, they asked each other questions about their families, friends, and experience in the film industry. Katrina is seen in the video admiring Vicky Kaushal's mother (Katina's mother-in-law), stating she sounds like a smart woman. Not only that, but Vicky shared how Katrina's song Teri Ore helped him learn how to woo the camera in acting school. Hearing this, Katrina quipped that she could say she had a significant role in Vicky perfecting his skill, to which Vicky said, 'I am thrilled to be in the presence of my guru'. Vicky's passionate gaze on Kat throughout the conversation only hinted at what was to come.
Katrina was apparently unaware of what was going on inside Vicky's mind, according to the sources. She was apparently astonished when she opened the brownie box that Vicky had sent to her and saw a message and a ring with the words, "Will you marry me?" in it. On the condition of anonymity, Katrina's close friend verified the proposal, saying, "Vicky is a genuine romantic at heart and completely enamored by Katrina". Even their mutual acquaintances are taken aback by how obsessive these two are with one another. In reality, the pandemic and lockdown brought them closer together and strengthened their friendship. So, when it came to proposing her lady love, Vicky went all-out in filmy fashion.
The wedding of Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal seemed to have taken everyone by surprise. Reza Katani, Katrina's fitness trainer, posted a photo of their wedding card, which was accompanied by a box of savouries. The wedding invitation looked absolutely adorable and reminiscent of childhood sketches on plain white paper. The card said "Let's Celebrate Katrina and Vicky" and had a doodle of a celebration beneath it. It included two leaflets: one with a formal invitation and one with information on the schedule and other specifics for guests. Sharing the picture of the invite on Instagram, Katani wrote, "To say I had the experience of a lifetime would be an understatement. To be honest ever since I met KK, every experience has been an unbelievable adventure. With that said I want to wish @katrinakaif and @vickykaushal09 a lifetime of laughter, excitement and love. The bringing of two such amazing families can only create something spectacular and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for you both. Thank you for including me in your celebrations and allowing me to be a part of your special day. I love you both."
The couple had a beautifully planned destination wedding in an intimate ceremony in the presence of their family and close friends at the Six Senses Fort Barwara in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur. According to reports, on the wedding day, while wedding preparations took place within the location, police officers and security staff were observed outside the fort's entrance. Eight security guards in black uniforms and two police officers stood to watch at what seemed to be the wedding venue's main entrance. On December 7 and 8, the couple held their pre-wedding celebrations. Many prominent visitors had arrived in Jaipur to take part in the wedding festivities. This walled fort, which faces the Chauth ka Barwara Mandir, was originally owned by a Rajasthani royal family. The fort's architecture is outstanding, invoking the majestic air of a bygone period.
Vicky and Katrina kept their wedding day as quiet and intimate as their love life, with just a limited number of people invited. Not only that, but stories were circulating about the many security precautions that the celebrity couple had put in place for their wedding extravaganza. These security measures included:
There were several other rumoured security measures like drones would be shot if spotted, the guests would have code names etc. The organisers at the venue had deployed Internet jammers to stop the guests and staff in the hotel from uploading any content related to the wedding on social media. Hence, no photos from inside the venue have yet come up on the Internet.
The 'Sangeet' night was marked by electrifying performances on Punjabi tracks. Vicky's love for Punjabi beats is well-known and the 'Sangeet' featured some of the best tracks including the recent chartbuster 'Bijlee Bijlee', performed live by Hardy Sandhu and Aastha Gill as the wedding couple danced their hearts out. The couple took to Instagram once again to share photos from their Mehendi and Sangeet parties that made us want to put on our dance shoes! Katrina picked a custom-made Sabyasachi costume for their adventurous night, and she looked stunning in it. Her vibrant ensemble was a combination of designs and patterns in bright tones of orange and red. Katrina Kaif wore a Sabya blouse with a plunging neckline, embroidered floral patterns, and tons of sequins and an antique Bajuband on the embellished colorful sleeves. Katrina Kaif's mehendi reached all the way up to her elbows and included classic designs on her hands such as peacocks, florals, and paisleys. For her wedding, the backs of her hands were also adorned with a lovely henna pattern. Her makeup is also noteworthy. Kat, like the rest of her events, chose to wear little makeup that simply highlighted her face. Her Mehendi look was finished with a flawless base, filled-in brows, neutral-tone lips, blush cheeks, and a subtle bindi. Vicky Kaushal seemed to be enjoying the time of his life with his new bride as well. The actor looked sharp in a basic green kurta outfit with gold patterns all around. To complete his style for the Sangeet night, he wore a flowery patterned Nehru jacket over this.
The bride chose another gorgeous Sabyasachi lehenga for the haldi. She leaned on an ivory set this time. Her haldi attire, like her bridal gown, was adorned with sophisticated workmanship methods such as gota patti. The bride opted to design her ensemble, which included a cropped top and a matching skirt, with the dupatta draped over her shoulders like a cape. Sabyasachi Mukherjee's signature tiger emblem on the belt complemented the lightweight skirt with small floral buttis. In certain photos, the pair is also dressed in a matching rani pink dupatta for the ceremonies. Floral Art & Design Studio's floral jhumkas, choker, and bangles were her choice. Daniel Bauer, the bride's friend and famous makeup artist, developed an au naturale look for her makeup. Maintaining a dewy base, the makeup was maintained in blush tones, as well as a dab of eyeshadow, bronzed cheeks, and neutral pink toned lips. Her hair were left open at the ends with lovely curls. Vicky Kaushal looked great in the designer's modest yet beautiful classic white ensemble. The Uri actor was also dressed in a bright pink drape as Katrina and his other family members splattered turmeric over him. His kurta was expertly tailored, with subtle embellishments. They both looked stunning together and shared delightful moments from their pre-wedding ceremony with their fans.
The couple tied the knot on 09th December 2021 in a private ceremony in the presence of their friends and family. On the evening of December 9, the couple shared their first pictures after the wedding on their respective Instagram accounts. Both of them captioned their posts, "Only love and gratitude in our hearts for everything that brought us to this moment. Seeking all your love and blessings as we begin this new journey together." Katrina Kaif looked stunning in a traditional Sabyasachi red wedding lehenga made of handwoven matka silk with delicate tilla work and carefully embroidered revival zardozi borders in velvet. Her veil was custom-trimmed with handcrafted kiran in hand-beaten silver, electroplated in gold to honour the groom's Punjabi ancestry. Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery provided custom bridal jewellery of uncut diamonds in 22k gold embellished with hand strung pearls for the lehenga. Vicky Kaushal, the groom, was dressed in an ivory silk sherwani with elaborate marori embroidery and distinctive Sabyasachi handmade gold plated Bengal Tiger buttons, as well as a silk kurta and churidar. The shawl was made of tussar georgette and had zari marori embroidery on the pallu and borders. Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery's gold Banarasi silk tissue safa was matched with a handmade kilangi and statement necklace adorned with emeralds, brilliant cut and rose cut diamonds, quartz and tourmalines in 18k gold.
Katrina shared photographs on Instagram, of herself walking under a flower-adorned chadar (canopy) as she prepared for her wedding ceremony. Katrina Kaif wore a red bridal lehenga and was flanked by her sisters, who were holding the chadar. Katrina grinned as she approached her husband, actor Vicky Kaushal. Katrina captioned the photos she shared, "Growing up, we sisters were always there for each other. They are my rock-solid pillars, and we keep each other grounded... May it always be this way!". On their wedding day, the newlyweds sent sweets to the photographers waiting outside the venue. Vicky's father, Sham Kaushal, also handed sweets at the Jaipur airport upon their return and stated that everything went smoothly during the wedding.
It's only been a few days since the Bollywood couple tied the knot, but wedding photos of Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif continue to captivate their followers and fans. The newlyweds have unveiled a new batch of wedding photos, this time paying respect to Kaif's British roots. While there was no white wedding gown, Kaif looked lovely in an exquisitely embroidered lavender and pink Sabyasachi saree with a beautiful veil. Kaushal looked dashing in a silk sherwani by the same designer who dressed the couple for all of their wedding celebrations. Taking to Instagram, the team of famous designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee broke down Katrina Kaif's look, sharing the picture on Instagram, they wrote "Katrina Kaif @katrinakaif pays tribute to her mother's British heritage during the pre-wedding festivities. Sabyasachi conceptualised and created a vintage-inspired couture sari with a trailing veil. Silhouetted like a white wedding gown, the pastel tulle sari is embellished with hand-cut English flowers, embroidered by craftswomen from Bengal and liberally sprinkled with semi-precious gems and crystals. The ensemble took 40 artisans over 1800 hours to handcraft. The saree is paired with a statement uncut diamond choker detailed with opals and pale Russian emeralds, with matching earrings from Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery @sabyasachijewelry. The groom @vickykaushal09 wears a Bangalore silk embroidered sherwani and matching churidar with Sabyasachi gold plated Bengal Tiger buttons and custom made juttis by @sabyasachiaccessories". Not only him, Anaita Shroff Adajania, celebrity stylist and one of the bride's closest friends also broke down Katina's look on Instagram, she wrote "Dreams do come true. 'Sundowner'. While planning the looks I really wanted something that reflected the beauty of a white wedding veil, trail and a bouquet of handpicked flowers. So we added these ideas to the eternal grace of a sari," she posted, adding: "@sabyasachiofficial created this magical nude floral tulle with the most delicate flowers, that reminded me of flowers we press to dry in our favourite romantic novels.. their fragrance lingering on...Here's to creating magical memories."
Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal, who got married on December 9 at Fort Barwara's Six Senses Resort in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, arrived back in Mumbai on December 14 from an undisclosed location and travelled to the actor's family home. The duo was seen in similar attire at Mumbai's airport. Vicky Kaushal looked handsome in a beige shirt and pants, while Katrina Kaif looked stunning in a pastel pink salwar-suit. She was seen wearing Punjabi chooda (bridal bangles) and had applied sindoor (red vermillion) in the parting of the hair. Both looked happy as they posed for the camera. Later, the stars were seen in a car outside Vicky Kaushal's previous residence. According to a few sources, Katrina and Vicky have rented a new property in Juhu, where they will shortly relocate. In several videos that were surfacing on the internet, the paps were seen asking Uri actor, Vicky Kaushal, "How's the Josh?"
Since the wedding involved only 120 guests, it is rumoured that the couple will host a grand wedding reception in Mumbai for their friends and family who couldn't attend the wedding. Whether a grand reception or not, all we can say is that the two have definitely set the bar high for the future couples. We wish them nothing but all the love and best wishes for their future life together!
